Yoga clothing!What do you think?

Have you noticed the rise of the Lycra yoga pants? I have and now I also have heard the rise of ” I won’t be caught dead in Lycra” or ” the I’m not flexible enough” has been replaced with “OMG I would look horrible in that gym clothing”.

This is really unacceptable, the benefits of yoga far outway the clothing choices and for that matter have you ever seen an Indian yogi in tights? Nah they are usually in flowing pants that keep movement easy. I know, I know, tights being skin tight make movement easy but, they also help women to get vaginal thrush and can cause vag/groin sweating that is not nice especially if you can’t shower after class and if you wear them every day with little reprieve from tight pants.

I know that there is so much in the way of advertising the look, clothing etc of yoga and I don’t criticise this as there is definitely a need. Some people love to wear tight clothing in bright colours, others prefer to hide themselves in black as media has decided it hides lumps, bumps, and your beautiful shape. The yoga clothing industry is now worth millions (billions) relying mostly on the status of your yoga elite and that most want to look the part. Do you honestly think YOU need to do this?

don’t get me wrong even I love these pants from dharma bums.

Clothing in yoga doesn’t have to be skin tight pants, sports bra and abs showing. The thing is it’s all about comfort and flow not being the most fashionable in the class. Yoga is an individual journey so how we dress is also individual.

In my classes I actually decided to ban black, this was due to the shade black being an energy blocking colour and I am trying to create a full chakra balancing flow that opens. When our ladies where wearing black pants they inadvertently were blocking their lower chakras.

Once this colour was asked to be phased out I noticed that the ladies in the class started wearing loosened clothing that had fabulous colours. I was also pleasantly surprised by the way their personal practices became more flowing, more connected and far less stressful. They found themselves and became what they prefer; ( they became their home self).

So try not to surrender to the medias viewed yoga and know that you are beautiful, gorgeous and sexy in anything you wear. Embrace your inner beauty and wear something comfortable that you can do your practice in. Be original and don’t bend to the oppressive view that we all have to look a certain way to practice yoga.

I know it is a great to say that meditation works for people but, does it really?

The answer is simple yes! It does. It helps to unwind, refresh, rejuvenate and just generally make you feel so much better but, how do we find the one that works for us or is best for me? Hmm well this is a tough one as there is no simple answer for this question it is all about searching and trying.

Each teacher, student, person is individual and their needs are as varied as the people themselves, my style is relaxing and some say hypnotic others are very deep, spiritual, or classical.

Meditation is definitely like your shoes and handbags, very individual and unique like yourself.

I provide a small meditation at the end of all my yoga classes instead of the standard Savasana relaxation, this provides all my ladies with the refresh and reboot needed to enjoy the rest of their day, week, evening and each of the ones I do carry a gentle visualisation of healing energies.

I like to advise everyone to give it ago as if you find the one that suits you you will notice the amazing health benefits that go with it. The include but are not limited to,

  • Weight loss
  • Happiness
  • Glowing skin
  • Forgiveness
  • Spiritual healing
  • Physical healing
  • Family satisfaction
  • Self awareness
  • Self love
  • Better sex life

And the list could go on.

I have done a recordings of meditations that I have created,

They will help to relax and find inner peace or heal the body mind and spirit. You may be after something completely different so go out and try different styles and embrace and enjoy the experience of surrendering to your own health.

Yoga Hippy Lifestyle

I have acquaintances that love the idea of being self sufficient and I have others that love the idea of the city and all the supposed simplicity of it all, can we really say that one or the other is simplistic or, is it just a state of mind?

I moved to this remote place just on ten years ago and realised that I had moved myself into isolation but, when push came to shove was I really more isolated than I was in town? Answer no I was actually far more isolated in the thriving metropolis of Newcastle where my family lived and I never saw.

Living where I do I have No electricity bills, no water bills, this is due to being on solar and generator power and having river and rain water for supply, We have the internet through the NBN sky muster system which everyone complains is slow but works wonders here and we a perfectly good phone line but no mobile service.

This is where everyone is going oh totally wish that was me, but do you really think that the challenges you face with these will make you happy? For me they have the power plays up and this is due to financial capital or lack there of to replace the old failed batteries, the generator needs an upgrade and for the same reasons can wait. All this aside am I happy? You bet and I wouldn’t change it for the world.

So right now I have spent the last few days preparing our beds for spring, nice and early so that we have a great diet to plant all the vegetables that our family eats, these are wife and varied and are always in overly abundant in which we share with neighbors, friends and of course the general public. Our business motto has always been pretty simple when it comes to the over supply of our fruits and vegetables 🥒 it’s a pay what you feel they are worth and people are as varied with this as the produce itself.

I love this life but it’s not for everyone, most people find it hard to disconnect from the world and live as natural as we do but, for us it isn’t even a thought as Stuart works bees 🐝 with Mother Nature as his boss, I work with yoga which is a universal down to earth, grounded way of life and we Both value greatly the time we spend together as a family unit as you really don’t know when it could be taken away.

Our little stall at the side of the road is where we stick our products and it’s on the old fashioned honesty system as karma catches those that are dishonest and we leave it to karma for the peacefulness of mind. We call our little stand the Yoga Hippy stand as it incorporates both my husband and I as well as the children we are all hippies at heart and we love a yogic lifestyle. Stuart’s Honey is sold at this little stall and we know that we get regulars coming as when where out of good old Hibbo’s Honey 🍯 they come up and ask for it.

So by the time that this article gets released I probably would have finished the gardens and started looking for plants to put in so it will probably be old news. I don’t turn the internet on daily let alone weekly and this is why you find that my posts are irregular.

Well hopefully you have a wonderful growing season and you find so peace in growing something for yourself.

Love the Yoga Hippy and Hibbo’s Honey crew from Newton Boyd NSW Australia ❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏

Good Food for Good Health

Okay so good food, healthy food is not always know for its ease and affordability or for that many family friendly budgeting but, if you can put this stereotyping of the good stuff aside I have a few hints and tips to make it affordable, family friendly and yum.

Firstly, you do NOT need to shop at Coles,  Woolworth’s, IGA for everything in fact you can do most of your shopping at places like the  affordable whole foods                                  ( https://www.affordablewholefoods.com.au/ )  shop either online of personally where you can pick up bulk items for less than packaged price and as good if not better quality as its generally Australian, or high quality anyways.

With this in mind you can now start to organise your cupboards and have a range of healthy alternatives for yourself, children and guest. Start by thinking about what you can make with the foods you wish to purchase so that you aren’t just getting a pile of ingredients that aren’t appropriate to your needs and also have an idea as to what you and your family like to eat most of the time, this should be your guide to purchasing foods and stop over expenditure or sudden dietary changes.

Be gentle with how and what you wish to change in your lifestyle don’t rush and try to become a full blown vegetarian, vegan or paleo if this is not you if trying these styles of living add them once a week not daily to see how it works.

Now that you have all your whole foods sorted ( nuts, seeds, rice, flour, pasta etc) lets have a look at fruit and vegetables. Just like the above store there are ways to purchase your fruit and vegetables without breaking the bank and thats farmers markets and in season produce from the supermarket. you will recognise in season by the amount on the shelves and the price is usually lower than when out of season. The other option is to plant a couple of your favourite fruit vegetable staples in your own yard, balcony etc. Eating in season is also better for your body and then nutritional benefits are higher as its ripe now.

Now the last staple is meats, this is just as easy especially for those in the cities, go for the fish markets for your seafoods, it’s fresh, cheaper than the supermarkets and can be filleted your way. red meats find a farm butcher, they are there ask around or check the internet, they also have delivery services to some areas.

So there you have it, you can be nutritionally balanced, enjoy great tasting foo and live within a really great budget. I have a family of six to feed and do this every few weeks so for the most my fortnightly budget is $300 and every 8 weeks it may go to $400 when I am running low on cleaners and a few standard essentials.

I have added a few links to the page to help take the searching out for you. enjoy your new budget friendly lifestyles.

I do shop at the Affordable whole foods store in Coffs Harbour but we have local fruit, vegetables and meat services.

“This is where I get all my products to feed our family of 6 minus fruit and vege, and any meat we need. I get asked all the time how I stay in a much smaller budget well here is the answer I buy bulk and cook for my family, I don’t buy takeaway, or alot of packaged foods e.g cheese three ways just the block.

For those that don’t already shop at a bulk whole-foods supplier check out this site… https://www.affordablewholefoods.com.au/

This recipe is from the Affordable wholefoods website and tastes AMAZING 🙂

Basil-Macadamia-Pesto.jpg

BASIL & MACADAMIA NUT PESTO

Ingredients:

1 clove garlic crushed

1/4 cup raw macadamia nuts

1 cup basil leaves

1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese

2 tablespoons olive oil

pinch of Celtic salt

1 teaspoon of savoury yeast flakes

Method:

  1. In a food processor pulse the garlic and macadamia nuts until mixed.
  2. Add the basil leaves and Parmesan cheese and blend again until you have an even consistency (don’t overdo it)
  3. Add the olive oil and Celtic salt and pulse for another 10 -15 seconds
  4. Serve into a bowl and sprinkle with nutritional yeast flakes

Inspiration:

Pesto is such a personal experience and you can mix it up in so many ways. Experimenting with using different herbs, nuts and seeds is a great way to do this.

We recommend with this recipe replacing the basil with parsley, or to make a wetter pesto, to add more olive oil to the mix. Enjoy!

Yoga the spiritual side.

You here a lot about yoga not all is true and the one thing that is definitely not true is the aspect of religion.

Most people believe that yoga students, teachers, practitioners, swami, guru are either non believers that wish to convert good people to the way of sexualise sin or that they wish to push a Buddhist, Hindu lifestyle on their pupils.

I can honestly say that this is a minority group not all go out to teach this infact most like to keep the spiritual, religious side of yoga out (me included).

So here’s the deal on yoga and religion/spiritualism it is up to you when you come to a class that has the spiritual aspect in it generally the teacher will tell you that it is between you and your personal god/goddess this doesn’t mean the you have to believe in a god/goddess it is simply a statement that encourages you to be more self aware. Your own personal god could be you, Jehovah, God, Muhammad, or any Hindu god. It could be anything and is left up to your own personal interpretation.

With this in mind you have no reason not to try yoga as we have dispelled the myths that you need to be flexible, or that yoga teachers are trying to convert you to a religion and the one that you have to eat only vega/vegetarian foods.

Enjoy the new and exciting experience of trying something new.
