The yogi with crohns.

I have Crohn’s disease, it is not glamorous, attractive or even what I call practical. This disease calls for gastronomic and colonoscopies a lot just to check that all is in working order and that there is no flare ups. Anyone that has either of these knows that the preparation for the up to 4 days pria is not fun.

So anyhow this is me, it means that I eat a sensible diet that excludes the high fat, deep fried, meats and breads that we all generally love. I can eat any or all these things on and off but definitely more off is preferable.

Crohns is a disease that I have had my entire life but, only recently been diagnosed with. When the diagnosis was given it was due to a appendectomy that I had in 2015 where they found not the usual appendicitis but an over sized, banana shaped appendix ( not normal).

Most People that you speak to wouldn’t know anything or anyone with this disease and then there is those that would’ve meet or do know someone with Crohns. It can react very differently to each and every sufferer bit all in all is quiet manageable if treated correctly by yourself or your medical practitioner.

Crohns is a disease of the gastrointestinal tract and can effect anywhere from mouth to anus. Sounds like a blast hey! So with me it was in the small bowel concentrated in the appendix area and shooting off into the large bowel a little. When they removed my appendix they also removed a 10cm piece of bowel just in case I had a cancerous section as they where not sure what they had found, they also removed a little valve that regulates the movements in my system and this took a while to adjust to as it meant that my diet had to change more then expected.

So today I am in for a colonoscopy and have been starving for the last few days, it takes approximately 40mins and then around another few hours before I can be released from the hospital.

Once this is over I start to get back to my life starting with a massive feed as I am so hungry and thirsty right now.

Do I let this disease control how I live my life? No way. I live everyday of my life, the highs lows and indifferent as it is my life and to quote someone’s saying ” it’s my lot, it’s not a lot, but it’s my lot”

Positivity is the key to everything we live through, not always easy but doable if we try.
